The Rest You Need to Know about Strengths-based Development for Leaders

Strengths-based development is a popular approach in coaching and leadership development. But when adopted and applied uncritically it can conflict with established principles of both executive development and adult development. In this session at the Society of Consulting Psychology conference in Philadelphia, Rob and his colleague, Cara Miller of Inquiry Partners, affirmed the contributions of a strengths-based approach and also identified limitations when used to develop leaders. Examples and workshop exercises illustrated how to combine a strengths approach with existing evidence-based methods in a more holistic, integrative practice model.
